TAKING THE FIRST STEP
The first step is to arrange an initial consultation with you to see the garden, discuss any ideas you have, look at the possibilities and limitations of the site, and understand your maintenance requirements and budget.

CONFIRMING REQUIREMENTS
SURVEY AND SITE ANALYSiS
We survey the space to ascertain levels, dimensions, and any other element that may affect the design process. This will include house boundaries, levels, drains, manholes etc. For larger schemes we may need to employ the services of a surveyor.
A site assessment will note things that influence the design such as soil type, aspect, views from the garden, neighbouring trees as well as any existing features that need to be retained, enhanced or hidden. Drawn up to scale, the survey will form a base upon which a design can develop.
CONCEPT PLANS, PRESENTATION PLANS
Initial concepts are prepared for discussion based on the design brief and site analysis, showing the ideas researched for the garden including areas of hard landscaping, planting. Illustrations, photographs and other visual aids are used to communicate our ideas.
PLANTING PLANS
INITIAL IDEAS
At the time of the survey, we will discuss the brief in more detail, using images of gardens, planting styles and hard landscaping materials to facilitate discussion of things you would like to include and, just as importantly, things you don’t. Any images you have will be especially useful at this stage.
CONSTRUCTION DETAILS
To proceed with the garden we would then need to provide additional documents and drawings required for the implementation of the work and for contractors to produce quotations for the construction phase. All required construction drawings, suggested sources for hard materials, lighting plans, setting out plans and full specification documentation will be provided as tender documents to obtain accurate quotations forom contractors . These also ensure that the design makes an accurate transition from plan to build.
Softening the hard-landscaping and ‘furnishing’ the space, the plants in your bespoke planting plan will be chosen to reflect your tastes, and to suit the site and style of your garden.
Whether adding structure, providing screening, supporting wildlife or feeding the household, they can have a functional role beyond merely looking pretty.
Varieties are chosen to provide seasonal interest throughout the year, whilst carefully selected colours enhance the design and create the desired mood. Once the design is finalised we provide an accurate planting plan, with a breakdown of plant quantities and costs for your approval.
If your garden is already landscaped, or you have a border that needs refreshing, a separate quote can be provided for an individual planting plan.
CONSTRUCTION AND PROJECT MONITORING
Gardens By Olivier work with a range of different experts such as lighting designers and irrigation companies. In many cases, our clients are happy to accept our recommendation about who should build the garden. Olivier will monitor the construction phase. In some cases, a competitive tender will be used. Olivier will prepare full tender documentation and manage the tender process on your behalf by contacting experienced landscapers. Fees for this second phase are agreed when the design is complete
